5 Minute Night Time Skin Care Regimen

Skin care regimens can be confusing, there are a few products and there is a reason why they go in a certain order. To get the most from your products it is important to layer them in the proper steps. A 5 minute night time skin care regimen is worth the time and effort, you will notice the difference in your skin.

I can’t possibly talk about  a 5 minute night time skin care regimen without mentioning you should be trying to get at least 8 hours of sleep, it should be a part of your nightly routine. Getting enough sleep will  facilitate skin repair that occurs overnight. Our blood vessels dilate when we are sleeping which allows oxygen and other nutrients to flow to the skin. Research shows that our cells even regenerate faster while we’re sleeping.

Night time should be for repairing the skin whereas the day time skin care  regimen is more about protecting the skin from the environment. It is important to remove all makeup every night. Taking care of your skin on a daily basis can make a difference, you will not notice the results over night but you will notice them in a few weeks. It takes effort to care for yourself but developing and sticking to a good skin care regimen at night time can make a real difference in your skins appearance.

I have some tips. Try to avoid doing your skin care regimen right before bed. You will be less likely to do this 5 minute night time skin care regimen as your tired. In addition, some of the products will be wiped away from your pillow or even get into your eyes and cause irritation. Perhaps your 5 minute night time skin care regimen can be completed after dinner or an hour before bed.

5 minute night time skin care regimen -Washing Your Face and Removing Makeup

Makeup remover-Your eyelid skin is fragile, choose  a makeup remover that dissolves the eye makeup so you don’t have to rub the eyes. Avoid rubbing and pulling, consider patting the eyelid areas rather than scrubbing them.

After removing your eye makeup you want to cleanse the face. This will rid your facial skin of grime, pollutants, and leftover sunscreen. Choose your cleanser wisely. Some cleansers are harsh and can be drying to the skin. This is important when you are older as we tend to develop dry skin as we age. Dry skin will make fine lines more visible. You want to cleanse the skin but leave the barrier protection intact. I prefer creamier lotions that can help dissolve makeup.  Some cleansers can remove makeup and cleanse the face. I use this one every night.

5 minute night time skin care regimen-Exfoliation

Is your skin dull?As we age, the skin turnover decreases leaving the skin dull. Exfoliating increases cell turnover. Exfoliation helps restore that bright glow. It can also help increase skin regeneration at night by hydrating the skin. Some exfoliants will draw water to the skin. Exfoliation also helps key ingredients in later steps penetrate the skin.,

There are chemical and manual exfoliants. A mechanical exfoliant would be considered something like the Clarisonic brush where are a chemical exfoliant is something such as alpha and beta hydroxy acids. Exfoliating is a great way to remove the skins outer dead skin cells to allow healthier skin below to shine.

5 minute night time skin care regimen -Mask

There are several masks on the market, choose the one that meets your needs. Perhaps you have dry skin or you want to help decrease blemishes. I find that masks are a great way to clean out your pores which helps reduce their appearance, it gives the impression that the pores are smaller. I do not use a mask every night but I try do apply one once a week.

5 minute night time skin care regimen  -Toner

After you wash your face the water will start evaporating. The toner can be applied right after washing away the makeup. Toners help hydrate the skin and balance pH depending on the cleanser you have used. We know that active ingredients in our serums penetrate deeper into moist skin compared to dry skin so don’t wait too long before performing the next step.

5 minute night time skin care regimen  -Serum

Ensure that the serum you chose is high in actives. Look for ingredients that focus in on your concerns. Serums contain the most potent dose of anti-aging ingredients  such as antioxidants, peptides, and skin brighteners. This is why they are more expensive than other types of skin care products. I try to avoid hydroqinone when lightening age spots, there are other safer ingredients that do not have the controversy surrounding this ingredient. Although serums may have some ingredients to hydrate the skin they are not meant to be a moisturizer, you should apply a moisturizer over your serum. Try to wait at least 60 seconds prior to doing so.

If you want to get the most bang for your buck then serums are where you should spend your money, they are the workhorse of the skin care line. My favorite serum that I use twice a day is this one. It is packed with peptides and ingredients that help reduce redness and fine lines.  This is one product I never skip.

Night Time Skin Care Regimen Tips 5 minute night time skin care regimen-Moisturizer

The idea of a moisturizer is to lock in the other ingredients while sealing your skin to help prevent water loss as you sleep. You do not need sunscreen in your night time moisturizer so skip that ingredient. Skin heals faster when it is moist, this is why we use cream and ointments on healing wounds. A very basic moisturizer that is low cost would be something like CeraVe Moisturizing Cream 16 oz Daily Face and Body Moisturizer for Dry Skin. This one can be used for dry skin sensitive skin.

5 minute night time skin care regimen -Eye cream

The skin around your eyes is delicate, it needs extra care. Ensure the eye creams that you are using to not have fragrance that can irritate your eyes. Dab the eye cream on. I typically will use my ring ringer to dab and lightly pat on the eyelid cream. Try to avoid rubbing and pulling the eyelid skin

5 minute night time skin care regimen -Facial oil

Facial oils are a great way to boost hydration. We use them at night because they may give too much shine during the day. In addition, some oils have retinol products which will make your skin more sensitive to the sun. They are usually packed with vitamin C, essential fatty acids and antioxidants which help protect and rejuvenate the skin. Antioxidants boost collagen production and strengthen skin elasticity, this can help reduce fine lines. Facial oils help hydrate the skin by preventing water loss.

If you feel that these oils are too greasy, consider spot-treat areas. You can use the face oil in areas that are dry or has wrinkles. A few drops go a long way. You want to dab and pat these oils into your skin.

There are a few on the market. I use this one which has retinol in it and smells amazing. My skin is softer and plump in the morning.
