  • Researchers say it’s important to note that some data for the study were collected while people were at the gym, which would exclude people who have a membership but are not using it. The study looked at people who have a gym membership and used that membership.
  • It is also a cross-sectional study, so researchers cannot directly state a cause and effect.

Will you go to the gym?

  • There is no sense in joining if you think you are too pressured for time. It will be easier to get to the gym if you do not have to go out of your way to get there.
  • Is the gym close to work?
  • Does it lie close to the path you take every day such as picking up your children from school or is it close to where you live?
  • It would make sense that the further you have to travel to work out in the gym the less likely you will go.

Are you committed to losing weight?

  • Losing weight and getting shape requires dedication. If you are going to go the gym then come home and eat a bag of chips or a sleeve of cookies you might as well save your money.

Go to the gym during the times you are planning on working out

  • Are machines available?
