DIY Laundry Detergent

If you are looking for a DIY laundry recipe, look no further. I think you are going to like these. They are effective and affordable. I did a post on laundry detergent concerns. You can read about some ingredients that are harmful to our health and are damaging to the wildlife.

I stopped using chemical laden detergent over 10 years ago as it aggravated my skin, and I needed something fragrance free for me and my daughter. I’ll never return back to it now! When not using this, we use Thieves laundry detergent (always cash in my Essential Reward points for this)!

I will give you my personal disclaimer and tell you that it takes a hot minute to make this recipe. And by a hot minute, I mean like 15-20 minutes.  I love the DIY recipe but do not always have time to make items like this.

I do not know about you, but I never seem to have enough time to get the things done. Young Living carries a fantastic chemical free non-toxic option called Thieves Laundry Detergent. I particularly love this option as it is plant based and has the Thieves aroma. It includes  Lemon, Bergamot, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Clove, Lemon & Cinnamon essential oils.

What makes Thieves Laundry Detergent different than all others, is that this product is concentrated like the Thieves Household Cleaner,  I only have to use a very small amount. What I love most about this laundry soap is how it has saved me from having to walk down the laundry and cleaning supply aisle at the grocery store. Bonus points scored for my nose and head! That aisle always gives me headaches.

1 ½ Cups of baking soda
1 ½ Cups of washing soda
½ Epsom salt,
2 tbsp. table salt,
2 bars grated Castile soap

Blend all ingredients in a food processor until well blended.

Store in an air-tight container.
Use 1-3 Tbsp per load (depending on the size of laundry load)

Split the Thieves Laundry detergent in 1/2. You can store 1/2 the bottle in a used container.

Replace with Purified water (fill to the top again)

Add 1/2 cap of Thieves cleaner.

This will cost pennies a load.

1/4 cup Washing Soda (Arm & Hammer Laundry Booster)
1/4 cup Baking Soda
1/2 cup Thieves Laundry Detergent
1 capful Thieves Household Cleaner (can add 1 extra capful if you typically have stains)

Use 1/4 cup per load

Recipe Makes 1 gallon
Add washing soda and fill the gallon container with 2 inches of HOT tap water then stir until it dissolves.

Add in the baking soda.

Fill with 2 cups warm water.

Add in your Thieves laundry detergent.

Add the Thieves Household Cleaner and stir.

You can always add in essential oils if you choose.

This DIY Thieves Laundry recipe costs you $3.60 per gallon

Stain spray

Don’t forget about using the Thieves Cleaner spray as a stain remover. Really works like a charm!

Dryer Balls

Be sure to complete your load with wool dryer balls in your dryer! Fabric softeners are full of chemicals!
